CEDAR RAPIDS - With the track and field season getting into full swing, the Xavier teams are trying to continue their successful start.
The Saints' outdoor season has been somewhat delayed by the weather with meets late last month cancelled because of bad weather. A meet on April 1 also was cancelled. The cold weather has caused the Saints to practice inside on some occasions to prevent injuries to the runners.
Despite conditions, they have been pushing through and working hard to get better. The boys and girls finished the indoor meets on March 17 and 18. While the girls competed at Iowa State, the boys competed at the Mississippi Valley Conference meet at the UNI Dome, then vice versa on the second day.
Junior Noah Clasen placed second for the Saints in the 400 dash with a time of 53.35 seconds at the MVC meet.
Senior Molly Breitbach placed fifth in the 60 meter dash in 8.27 seconds.
Breitbach, senior Allison Schwach, junior Taylor Skala and sophomore Sydney Oakley were on the fifth-place 400 relay, which posted a time of 53.24 seconds.
'I'm really glad to be pushing through the grind with my teammates,' sophomore Nick Stark said. 'I'm looking forward to getting outside to compete with the team and showing our skills.'
