HIGH SCHOOL JOURNALISM: Wildcats off to great start

By Diane Temple, newspaper adviserDELHI - The commencement of the football season started with several positives, including a 28-14 win over Starmont and a  school record.Junior Ryan Parmely set the  record for yards rushed in one game with 271. The previous record was 265. MV had 359 total rushing yards compared to Starmont's 183.After a scoreless first half, Coach Wes Wilson knew something was amiss.'We struggled in the first half," he said. "We turned the ball over too many times and were out of sync on offense.'The Wildcats turned it around in the second half and finished the third quarter with a 20-8 lead.Parmely ran for a 65-yard touchdown in the third quarter and followed that up with a 3-yard rush for six. Trevor Koopmann also scored a touchdown in the third quarter with a 4-yard rush. Steve Huber made good on the 2-point conversion pass.Parmely found the end zone twice in the fourth quarter with one more touchdown and a 2-point conversion.Offensively, quarterback Ben Dzaboff passed for 53 yards. He also rushed 83 yards. Parmely and Rob Bockenstedt shared kicking duties with Parmely kicking 88 yards on two kicks and Bockenstedt 109 yards on three kicks. Parmely also was the punter, averaging 30.3 yards on his three punts.Leading tacklers were Tanner Hargrafen with 10, Parmely with eight and Huber with 6.Wilson said the team needs to tackle better if it wants to stay competitive.'We gave up some big runs on missed tackles," he said. "We have a lot of things we need to improve on for this week.
