By Nic Ekland, Xavier juniorCEDAR RAPIDS - As the season comes to a close, the Xavier girls' basketball team is hoping to give tis seniors a ride to remember.This year, the Saints have relied on key leadership from seniors Hayley Deutmeyer, Abby Watson and Maddie Bertsch.“My last year has been awesome,” Deutmmeyer said. “We have battled and fought together. I don't want it to end.”The Saints have been fairing well with a 9-9 record and look to do some damage in the Class 4A playoffs.“We are just trying to stay focused and finish the year strong,” Bertsch said.Making it to state has been a goal all year, especially since the team won the 4A championship last year.“After playing 5A schools all year, it makes you tougher," Deutmeyer said. "We are excited to keep working.”Deutmeyer had 15 points as the Saints beat Cedar Falls in a 48-43 match. The Saints lost a tough battle at home to Linn-Mar, 55-35, with Bertsch leading the Saints with 10 points.The Saints are home tonight, hosting Iowa City West in girl-boy double-header.
