CENTRAL CITY - The Central City golf teams have been practicing hard with the most important meet of the season quickly approaching.
“If we have everyone available to play in the conference meet I would hope to see us somewhere in the middle of the pack.” Coach Jon Byers said about the boy's team before the Tri-Rivers Conference meet.
The boys have been averaging in the 220s for nine holes. They are looking for their first win heading into Friday's Class 1A sectional at Town & Country Golf Course in Grundy Center.
“We are young with a lot of inexperience, and hopefully that leads to a bright future,” Byers said.
Alec Dolton, Rusty Johnson, Mason Postion, Billy Marrow, Hunter Rollinger, Josh Kerslake, Jeff McGovern and Cody Koehn make up the boys' team.
The girls' golf team has a record of 3-4 and is averaging in the 225 range.
“If things go our way, we should have the leadership and experience to do some nice things.” Byers said. “We have the opportunity, both individually and as a team, to be a serious threat in post season play.”
In spring 2010, the girls' team broke several school records. This could be another record-breaking team.
“If everyone is available we should be able to break some school records that were set in 2010,” Byers said.
The girl's team consists of Kailey Fleming, Ingrid Martinson, Ashley Kerslake, Nicole Enabnit, Nicole Uhlenkamp, Rylee Owens, Shelby Malone, Promise Wright, Amanda O'Leary, Sarah Goettler, Rachael Enabnit, Lindsey Elam and Christy Nelson.
“I'm excited for the opportunity that the girls have this year, both individually and as a team," Byers said. "Their hard work is paying off. Hopefully we see some results.”
The girls' play Monday at Calamus in districts.
