By Lizzy McWhinney, Xavier seniorCEDAR RAPIDS - The Xavier boys' soccer team played Linn-Mar earlier this month in cold and unfavorable conditions.Sophomore Connor Ramlo scored in the first three minutes of the game off of an assist by senior captain Isaac Frisch. Neither team scored for the next 77 minutes, giving the Saints a 1-0 win.“For me personally, I am trying to take it one game at a time and play how we always do,” senior captain Daniel Cowden said.The Saints competed against Cedar Falls on May 7 at Xavier High School. Cowden got an early goal off a pass from senior captain Eli Smith in the first few minutes of the game and Ramlo added a goal late in the game off a pass from Cowden as Xavier ended Cedar Falls' seven-game win streak with a 2-0 victory.The Saints played Cedar Rapids Kennedy on April 10 at Kennedy High School in a battle of No. 1-ranked teams, Xavier in 2A and Kennedy in 3A. Kennedy entered the game undefeated."As a team, we knew we were going to have to ignore all of the talk and hype and just go out and play our game,” Cowden said.Frisch scored midway through the first half for the Saints, and the team held the Cougars off for the rest of the game. Senior goalkeeper Paul Cavin made several saves for the Saints, helping them to a 1-0 victory.Xavier played Dubuque Wahlert in Dubuque on April 11 in a rescheduled match. Neither team scored in the first half, but with 15 minutes left in the game, Ramlo scored for the Saints. After that, Wahlert scored two more goals in the last 10 minutes of the game and won 2-1.
