By Courtney Axline, North Cedar seniorSTANWOOD - Before the school year even starts, cheerleading begins.Tryouts are in April and practice begins June. Already placed in specific sports, we begin with simple cheers. For me, this being my first year, it was a challenge. From April until now, I worked on improving my technique and jumps. I always was tired, but in the end, it was worth it.Now, with basketball starting, I have started learning stunts. That, by far, is my favorite part. My progress has greatly increased and I'm excited. My only wish is that I would have started my freshman year.I do recommend if you want to try cheerleading, go for it. Don't let insecurities hold you back.As football season came to an end and the cold nights I had traded for a hot gym, it was a challenge to beat - and I did.I'm excited to be cheering for basketball and, hopefully, watch as the boys' and girls' make their journey to state.
