Hermsen's 1st year with Twins a great one

Sep. 2, 2009 3:10 pm
Got off the phone within the last few minutes with former West Delaware prep and Gazette Male Athlete of the Year B.J. Hermsen. He had just gotten home (to Masonville) a couple of hours earlier, after spending 5 1/2 months living in a hotel room in Fort Myers, Fla.
Hermsen had a terrific season with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Twins. He finished 6-2 with a 1.35 earned run average in 10 starts, including a convoluted complete-game shutout. In his first-ever professional game, he was part of a combined no-hitter.
"Definitely really happy with it," Hermsen said. "I felt like I made adjustments throughout the year. Our pitching coach (Ivan Arteaga) really helped out a lot. I felt like I was able to make the adjustments he told me to make."
We'll have a more complete story on Hermsen in
The Gazette here in the next couple of days.
