Hawkeyes roll into National Duals semifinals

IOWA CITY — After a slow start, the top-ranked Iowa wrestling team rolled over Tennessee-Chattanooga, 44-3, in the quarterfinals of the National Duals on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Hawkeyes (16-0) will take on fifth-ranked Cornell (16-1) in the semifinals after the Big Red knocked off Minnesota. 19-17. Eleventh-ranked Lehigh upset No. 3 Ohio State, 21-18, and will meet No. 2 Missouri in the other semifinal. The Tigers beat Illinois, 23-13.
Iowa won nine of the 10 bouts against the Mocs, getting pins from Cory Clark at 133 pounds, Mike Kelly at 157, Mike Evans at 174, Sammy Brooks at 184 and Bobby Telford at heavyweight. Brandon Sorensen at 149 added a 19-4 technical fall in 6 minutes, 19 seconds.
Josh Diewa at 141, Nick Moore at 165 and Nathan Burak at 197 won by decisions for Iowa, which totaled 19 takedowns to Chattanooga's four.
Brooks had the quickest fall of the afternoon, decking McCoy Newberg in 1:52. Telford also had a first-period pin, flattening Jared Johnson in 2:50. Clark pinned Nick Soto in 4:15, Kelly finished Austin Sams in 4:32 and Evans ended his bout with Sean Mappes in 4:44.
The Mocs' only winner was Sean Boyle at 125. Boyle upset No. 5 Thomas Gillman, 3-1.
