Iowa State Coach Kevin Dresser will unveil the rest of his wrestling staff Tuesday in Ames.
The additions will have a heavy Iowa Hawkeye flavor.
Iowa State confirmed in a news release Monday that former Hawkeyes Mike Zadick, Derek St. John and Brent Metcalf will join the Cyclones' coaching staff. Dresser took over for interim head coach Travis Paulson after he replaced Kevin Jackson, who stepped down in January after announcing he would resign at the end of the season.
Dresser declined to comment on the official hirings, which are pending administrative approval. He said a news conference will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m.
'I'm not prepared to talk about it,' Dresser said in a phone interview with The Gazette Monday afternoon before the news release was distributed. 'I don't have anything to say, right now.'
St. John and Zadick were members of Dresser's Virginia Tech staff the last two seasons. According to the news release, Zadick will be the Associate Head Coach, while St. John will be a full-time assistant. According to Flo wrestling, Metcalf will fill the volunteer assistant position.
St. John, a two-time state at Iowa City West, was a four-time All-American at Iowa, winning the 157-pound NCAA title in 2013. St. John was a two-time state champion and four-time state medalist at Iowa City West. Before he joined the Hokies, St. John was a volunteer assistant at North Dakota State.
Zadick, a three-time All-American at Iowa, served in various roles on the Hawkeye coaching staff, including interim assistant from 2010-12.
Metcalf was expected to become full-time national freestyle developmental coach with USA Wrestling in May. He was an assistant for Cedar Rapids Prairie last season. Metcalf was a two-time NCAA champion and three-time NCAA finalist for the Hawkeyes.
Both St. John and Metcalf wrestled for current Iowa Coach Tom Brands.
