Hawkeye Huddle al fresco (Video)

Jan. 1, 2017 6:12 pm
TAMPA, Fla. — The formula is the same at a bowl game that includes Iowa.
There is a Hawkeye Huddle in the city of the bowl. Thousands of Iowa fans descend upon it. The Hawkeye Marching Band performs. Gary Dolphin has a microphone and says something or another. Beer is consumed in mass quantities.
So it happened Sunday at Channelside Bay Plaza in downtown Tampa. A difference, however, is this Huddle was held outdoors. And, many of the Hawkeye supporters watched an Iowa basketball game on television before the Huddle.
Most of those people stood outside to watch from patio areas of restaurants that cagily put the Big Ten Network telecast of the game on their TVs during an NFL Sunday. They quite enjoyed Iowa's 86-83 overtime win over Michigan in Iowa City.
Then they did the Huddle thing.
Then, presumably, many had dinner. Quite possibly, some continued with beer-consumption. But all were looking forward to Monday's Iowa-Florida Outback Bowl.
And that's all there really is to this post.
