You're going to ask about injuries and I'm going to write what I wrote yesterday.
Defensive end Drew Ott played in a limited third-down pass-rush role early in the game and kind of disappeared late. He couldn't completely bend his dislocated left elbow while wearing a heavy wrap and brace. Kirk Ferentz said after the game there was no backslide as far as re-injury, but didn't offer anything beyond that.
Running back LeShun Daniels is in the same kayak. He carried nine times for 15 yards and didn't play much late with his ankle injury. He said he felt like he could go. Pitt was monstrous up front, so it was tough for Iowa's running game to gain traction. Basically, it was no country for injured running backs.
My speculation is both will have the same status this week. If I'm redshirt freshman Parker Hesse and sophomore Derrick Mitchell, I make sure the trainers properly tape my ankles for North Texas (2:30 ESPNU).
- Iowa at Wisconsin next week, the Hawkeyes' first trip to Camp Randall Stadium since a 2009 victory, will be an 11 a.m. kick. TV is TBA, but it'll be ABC/ESPN/ESPN2. You'll grumble about the 11 a.m., but this is a game that the first-choicers (ABC/ESPN) weren't going to let go. That Nebraska at Illinois game is 2:30, but it's on BTN, which, by the looks of it, had third choice this week.
- No changes on the depth chart.
Factlets roll out:
- Iowa is shooting for its first 4-0 start since 2009 (basically, everything X-0, the answer is 2009, unless it gets to be 10-0, and then the answer is . . . I don't know). Iowa also is shooting for its fourth 4-0 under Ferentz.
- North Texas coach Dan McCarney is one of five UI undergrads leading FBS programs. That's the most in the nation. Who are they? McCarney, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema (he's involved in some fun stuff post the Hogs' loss to Texas Tech), Kentucky coach Mark Stoops and UConn coach Bob Diaco.
For argument's sake, who would be No. 6 (I know there are no guarantees all five UI guys end the season as an FBS head coach)?
My list would start with Brian Ferentz (and I don't know what's in his heart, a future father of two) and then Jay Norvell (OC at Texas). From there, maybe Jerry Montgomery (DL assistant with the Packers) and Kerry Cooks (DB coach under Stoops at OK).
- Iowa is only one of four schools in the country to not allow a rushing TD.
- Former Iowa head coach Hayden Fry compiled a 40-23-3 record from 1973-78 at North Texas. McCarney and North Texas quarterback Andrew McNulty are Iowa City, Iowa, natives. McNulty was North Texas' leading passer in 2014.
McCarney is the second Iowa City native in the last three seasons to coach in Kinnick Stadium (Terry Allen, Missouri State, 2013). McCarney, a Hawkeye assistant from 1977-89, will make his seventh appearance on the opposing sideline at Kinnick. He was 3-3 as a visitor as Iowa State's head coach.
Where did CJB throw the ball?
- I keep this every week (not in chart form), I just don't add it up. Well, I added it up and will try to do that from here on out and catch up with the two games I was lazy.

Mid middle (11 to 20 yards)

Deep left (20-plus yards)
: 0 of 1

Deep middle
: 0 of 1
- Target: VandeBerg 0 of 1 (25 air)
Deep right
: 1 of 3 for 51 yards
- Targets: Smith 1 of 3
Formations (give or take)
11 shotgun (one RB, one TE) - 30
11 (one RB, one TE, QB under center) - 13
12 (one RB, two TE) - 17
20 (two backs, no TE) - 4
21 (two backs, one TE) - 5
22 (two backs, two TE) - 2
23 (two backs, three TE) - 1
Obs - Remember, CJB and hip injury (which after the game he said was extremely sore), but this seems to be his preferred set up. Also, Iowa didn't run a lot of power sets because it knew it couldn't win phone booth football vs. one of the better D-lines (and overall defenses) it will face.
