Lacey Hamlett received an honor and financial boost.
Hamlett, a Cedar Rapids native and 2010 Cedar Rapids Jefferson graduate, was named Miss Iowa Speedway Saturday night before the start of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series Graham Tire 150. The award includes a $1,500 scholarship for next year at University of Northern Iowa.
"It's awesome," Hamlett said. "It's great to be more involved and earn a scholarship through it, too."
Hamlett, whose family and friends have season tickets at Iowa Speedway, applied online at the track's website and then received email notification she had reached the top 10. She was interviewed by a panel of judges and then was told she was selected as a finalist while she was organizing the "Relay For Life" at UNI.
"That was pretty exciting," Hamlett said. "Tonight, we came here and found out that I was the winner."
Hamlet, the daughter of Bart and Denise Hamlet, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-Chiropractic with plans for post-graduate studies at Logan College (Mo.) or Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.
