IOWA CITY — Guard Christian Williams became the fifth member of Iowa's 2015 recruiting class when he committed to the Hawkeyes on Monday afternoon.
Williams, a 6-foot-5 combo guard from Decatur (Ill.) St. Teresa, made his announcement on Twitter.
'Right away it felt like that's where I needed to be,' Williams told the Dectaur Herald-Review. 'The organization felt like a family.'
According to the Herald-Review, Williams averaged 18.8 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. St. Teresa finished 27-5 and placed second in Class 2A. He was selected as first-team all-state by multiple organizations. Rivals lists Williams as a three-star recruit.
Iowa now has three players from Illinois in this year's signing class. Forward Brandon Hutton (6-6) hails from Chicago De La Salle, while combo guard Isaiah Moss (6-5) plays at Chicago Simeon. Other signees for this year include guard Andrew Flemming (6-4), who plays at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy and forward Ahmad Wagner (6-7) from Huber Heights, Ohio.
The Hawkeyes have one scholarship available for this class and are targeting a post player, Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said at a recent news conference.
