CEDAR RAPIDS - There's another new team atop Class 3A.
LeMars has reached the top spot in the latest Gazette boys' basketball rankings. It flips positions with number two Spirit Lake, which lost last week for the second time this season to Western Christian.
LeMars has knocked off WC, ranked second in 2A, twice. Spirit Lake has beaten LeMars, with the teams scheduled to play again next week.
Waverly-Shell Rock was number one in 3A until losing twice two weeks ago. The Go-Hawks remain fifth, getting back on the winning track last week by beating Class 4A Waterloo West.
Did you get all that, by the way?
The other number ones remain the same. Class 4A Iowa City West is 15-0 after a hard-fought win last Friday at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. New Hampton is first in 2A, Gladbrook-Reinbeck first in 1A.
There was a wee bit of movement in 4A, with West Des Moines Dowling and West Des Moines Valley dropping out in favor of Urbandale (12-4) and Council Bluffs Lincoln (15-2). The top 10 in 2A are the same, though there was some shuffling, with Monticello moving from eighth to fifth after a big win last week over Cascade, which goes from fourth to seventh.
The Class 3A rankings once again include Gilbert (14-2) at 10th, after a week's absence. Dubuque Wahlert and Williamsburg remain third and fourth, respectively.
In 1A, LeMars Gehlen lost for the first time and dropped from second to seventh. Colo-NESCO edged Meskwaki Settlement School in a close game last week and vaulted from seventh to fourth.
Meskwaki remains in the poll at ninth.
