CEDAR RAPIDS — Here’s your sixth look of the season at what we call Iowans In The Minors. It’s a bi-weekly look at how baseball players in the major leagues and affiliated minor leagues are fairing.
That’s guys from the Gazette area and University of Iowa.
All the following statistics for players are through Thursday.
One other note: pitcher Connor Schultz, a Cedar Falls graduate who played at Iowa, has been signed by the Chicago Cubs out of independent baseball. He’s been assigned to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League Cubs but has yet to appear in a game.
Keaton Anthony (Iowa/Philadelphia Phillies) — First baseman hit .322 in 44 games for low-Class A Clearwater to earn a promotion this week to high-A Jersey Shore of the South Atlantic League. Is 2-for-6 with a RBI in his first two games with the BlueClaws.
Ben Beutel (Davenport Assumption/Iowa/Chicago White Sox) — Lefty relief pitcher has no record and a 5.27 earned run average for high-A Winston-Salem of the South Atlantic League. Has allowed 13 hits and eight walks in 13 2/3 innings, with 17 strikeouts.
Jake Bockenstedt (Cedar Rapids Washington/Chicago White Sox) — Pitcher has made 11 appearances and 10 starts for low-A Kannapolis of the Carolina League. Has 1-3 record and 3.57 ERA. Has allowed 46 hits and struck out 52 in 53 innings.
Will Christophersen (Iowa/Los Angeles Angels) — Right-handed reliever has 1-0 record and 5.35 ERA in 17 appearances for low-A Inland Empire (California League). Has allowed 28 hits in 37 innings, with 51 strikeouts.
Duncan Davitt (Iowa/Tampa Bay Rays) — Has made 14 pitching starts for high-A Bowling Green of the high-A South Atlantic League. Has 5-5 record and 2.97 ERA. Has gi ven up just 56 hits in 75 2/3 innings, with 19 walks and 77 strikeouts. That’d be a 0.99 WHIP, which is exceptional for a starter.
Jack Dreyer (Iowa/Los Angeles Dodgers) — Lefty reliever is dealing at Triple-A Oklahoma City (Pacific Coast League). Has 1-1 record and 1.62 ERA in 14 appearances. Over 16 2/3 innings, has given up just 14 hits and two walks, with 23 strikeouts.
Calvin Harris (Western Dubuque/Chicago White Sox) — Catcher has played in 38 games with 143 at-bats for high-A Winston-Salem. Hitting .231 with a homer and 17 RBIs. Has hits in seven of his last eight games.
Grant Judkins (Iowa/Oakland Athletics) — Has pitched to a 1.69 ERA in five June appearances, including a pair of starts. That has lowered his season earned run average to 3.13 in 14 appearances, seven starts. Only 39 hits allowed in 46 innings with 42 strikeouts. Also a 1-3 record.
Mitch Keller (Cedar Rapids Xavier/Pittsburgh Pirates) — Right-handed starter picked up a win this week in his latest start, at Cincinnati. That improved his season record to 9-4. He has a 3.20 ERA in 16 starts. Has 91 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings. Is another MLB All-Star Game in his near future?
Austin Krob (Lisbon/San Diego Padres) — Double-A San Antonio left-hander went seven shutout innings in his last start, against Amarillo, with two walks and 12 strikeouts. Is Is 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA this season in 13 appearances, 12 starts. Has 53 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings.
Ty Langenberg (Iowa/Minnesota Twins) — Right-hander has won both of his starts with the low-A Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League). Has given up seven hits in 10 innings, with four walks and 14 strikeouts.
Adam Mazur (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — Right-handed pitcher has made a handful of big league starts for the Padres. Is 1-2 with a 7.25 ERA. Has allowed 24 hits and 17 walks in 22 1/3 innings, with 11 strikeouts.
Mason McCoy (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — Every day shortstop for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas has played in 70 games this season and is hitting .224. Has four home runs and 24 RBIs.
Cole McDonald (New Hampton/Iowa/Houston Astros) — Righty reliever was sent down to Double-A Corpus Christi (Texas League) after struggling at Triple-A Sugar Land. Has made three shutout innings thus far for the Hooks and a save.
Ian Moller (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — Catcher has played in 48 games for the high-A Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League. Hitting .195 with a homer and 11 RBIs. Also has drawn 28 walks and stolen 11 bases.
A.J. Puk (Cedar Rapids Washington/Miami Marlins) — Southpaw settling back into the bullpen. Has not given up an earned run in his last five appearances, spanning six innings. Has a 2-8 record, one save and a 5.67 ERA this season for Miami. Has pitched in 22 games, including four early starts.
Colin Rea (Cascade/Northern Iowa/Milwaukee Brewers) — Has taken every turn through the starting rotation for a Milwaukee team whose rotation has been decimated by injuries. Has a 6-2 record and 3.62 ERA in 15 appearances overall (13 starts). just 76 hits allowed in 82 innings.
Connor Schultz (Cedar Falls/Iowa/Chicago Cubs) — Has pitched in two affiliated professional leagues since signing with the Cubs recently. Has a 1.80 ERA and a save. In five innings with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Cubs, has given up four hits and three walks and struck out eight.
Tommy Specht (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — Outfielder has played in an even 50 games for low-Class A Down East of the Carolina League. Has four doubles, a homer and 21 RBIs with six stolen bases.
Connor Van Scoyoc (Cedar Rapids Jefferson/Colorado Rockies) — Right-hander is 3-0 in four June starts with a 1.59 ERA for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats of the Eastern League. Is 5-5 with a 5.17 ERA in 13 starts overall.
Trenton Wallace (Davenport Assumption/Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — Has made 13 starts for Double-A New Hampshire. The southpaw pitcher is 3-2 with a 2.81 earned run average. Only 45 hits allowed in 64 innings, with 79 strikeouts.
Peyton Williams (Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — The big first baseman has played a three levels since coming off the 60-day disabled list. Has gotten 20 in at high-A Vancouver (Northwest League) and is hitting .219 with two homers and nine RBIs. Has 16 walks to 15 strikeouts, a positive ratio.
Keaton Winn (Pekin/Iowa Western Community College/San Francisco Giants) — Right-handed pitcher is on the 15-day injured list for the Giants with an elbow issue. Has made 12 starts for San Francisco and is 3-8 with a 7.16 ERA.
