CEDAR RAPIDS — Here’s your eighth look of the season at what we call Iowans In The Minors. It’s a bi-weekly look at how baseball players in the major leagues and affiliated minor leagues are fairing.
That’s guys from the Gazette area and University of Iowa.
All the following statistics for players are through Thursday.
One other note: none of the Iowa players signed from the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft or as a free agent have officially been assigned to a minor league team, yet. They’d be pitchers Brody Brecht (Rockies), Jack Young (White Sox) and Marcus Morgan (Phillies), outfielder Sam Petersen (Nationals) and infielder Raider Tello (Phillies).
Keaton Anthony (Iowa/Philadelphia Phillies) — First baseman hit .322 in 44 games for low-Class A Clearwater and since moving up to high-A Jersey Shore of the South Atlantic League is hitting .366 in 25 games with no home runs and 21 RBIs.
Ben Beutel (Davenport Assumption/Iowa/Chicago White Sox) — The southpaw reliever is with low-A Winston-Salem of the South Atlantic League. Has appeared in 17 games, with a 1-1 record and 5.09 ERA. Has 29 strikeouts and given up just 19 hits in 23 innings.
Jake Bockenstedt (Cedar Rapids Washington/Chicago White Sox) — Right-handed pitcher recently was promoted from low-A Kannapolis of the Carolina League to high-A Winston-Salem of the South Atlantic League. Gave up nine hits and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings in his first start for the Dash. Went 3-8 with a 4.54 ERA in 15 games, 14 starts for Kannapolis.
Will Christophersen (Iowa/Los Angeles Angels) — Right-handed reliever recently was released by the Angels. Had been at low-A Inland Empire (California League), where he had a 1-0 record and 5.09 ERA in 20 appearances. Went 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in 29 career appearances.
Duncan Davitt (Iowa/Tampa Bay Rays) — Has made three starts since being promoted from high-A Bowling Green to Double-A Montgomery (Southern League). Righty pitcher is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA for the Biscuits, with 11 hits allowed in 15 innings, with 16 strikeouts.
Jack Dreyer (Iowa/Los Angeles Dodgers) — Southpaw relief pitcher’s tremendous season continues. Is 4-1 with a 2.03 ERA for Triple-A Oklahoma City (Pacific Coast League), with 22 hits allowed in 26 2/3 innings and 36 strikeouts. Didn’t give up an earned run in 14 2/3 innings for Double-A Tulsa (Texas League) before being moved up to OKC.
Calvin Harris (Western Dubuque/Chicago White Sox) — Catcher is on the seven-day injured list for high-Class A Winston-Salem (Carolina League). Has .233 in 54 games, with two home runs and 21 RBIs.
Grant Judkins (Iowa/Oakland Athletics) — All in all, the righty pitcher has been solid this season for high-A Lansing of the Midwest League. Has made 19 appearances, nine starts, with a 2-5 record and 3.41 ERA. Only 55 hits allowed in 63 1/3 innings.
Mitch Keller (Cedar Rapids Xavier/Pittsburgh Pirates) — Pirates continue to be in the hunt for a National League playoff spot, in part due to the right-handed starter. Has a 10-5 record and 3.30 ERA in 21 starts. Has allowed just 121 hits in 128 1/3 innings, with 114 strikeouts.
Tate Kuehner (Marshalltown/Milwaukee Brewers) - Right-handed pitcher has thrown in 16 games, including 13 starts, for high-A Wisconsin of the Midwest League. Has 5-2 record and 2.76 ERA, with just 52 hits allowed in 68 2/3 innings and 82 strikeouts.
Austin Krob (Lisbon/San Diego Padres) — Has pitched in 19 games, 18 starts, for Double-A San Antonio (Texas League). Left-hander has 3-8 record and 5.32 ERA. Hasn’t picked up a win since July 4.
Ty Langenberg (Iowa/Minnesota Twins) — The Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest League) right-handed pitcher is 3-0 with a 4.70 ERA in six starts. Has 31 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings. Began the season with low-A Fort Myers before getting a promotion to high-A.
Adam Mazur (Iowa/Miami Marlins) — Right-handed pitcher was involved in a trade last week that took him from the Padres organization to the Miami Marlins organization. Has yet to pitch for Triple-A Jacksonville (International League), where he has been assigned. Mazur has pitched in Double-A, Triple-A and at the major league level this season.
Mason McCoy (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — Veteran infielder is with Triple-A El Paso of the Pacific Coast League. Hitting .237 in 93 games, with four homers and 37 RBIs. Also has 22 stolen bases.
Cole McDonald (New Hampton/Iowa/Houston Astros) — Righty reliever has split his season between Double-A Corpus Christi (Texas League) and Sugar Land (Pacific Coast League). Right now is with Corpus Christi, where he is 2-0 with a save and 0.00 ERA in 11 appearances. Just five hits allowed in 13 1/3 innings, with 16 strikeouts.
Ian Moller (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — Catcher has played in 67 games for the high-A Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League. Hitting .224 with a homer and 18 RBIs. Also has 13 stolen bases, a particularly high total for a backstop.
A.J. Puk (Cedar Rapids Washington/Arizona Diamondbacks) — Picked up by the Diamondbacks in a trade from the Miami Marlins. Has given up a run in 3 1/3 innings in four appearances with Arizona. Has been good since returning to a relief role after spending the first month as a starting pitcher.
Colin Rea (Cascade/Northern Iowa/Milwaukee Brewers) — Certainly a reason the Brewers lead the National League Central Division. Has pitched in 21 games, 18 starts, and has a 9-3 record and 3.59 ERA. Allowed just 103 hits in 115 1/3 innings.
Connor Schultz (Cedar Falls/Iowa/Chicago Cubs) — Free-agent signee in June pitched five games for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League Cubs. Has been moved up to low-A Myrtle Beach (Carolina League), where he has given up two runs in three innings in one appearance.
Tommy Specht (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — Outfielder has played in 65 games for the low-A Down East Wood Ducks of the Carolina League. Hitting .177 with a home run, 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
Connor Van Scoyoc (Cedar Rapids Jefferson/Colorado Rockies) — Right-handed pitcher has been on the development list for Double-A Hartford of the Eastern League for a couple of weeks. Has a 5-6 record with a 4.67 ERA in 17 starts for the Yard Goats.
Trenton Wallace (Davenport Assumption/Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — Left-handed pitcher made 17 starts for Double-A New Hampshire (Eastern League), going 4-3 with a 2.68 ERA. Had 97 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings. Recently promoted to Triple-A Buffalo (International League), where he allowed six hits and three runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Peyton Williams (Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — Been at three levels of the minor leagues this season after returning from an injury that cost him the first part of the season. Currently with high-A Vancouver of the Northwest League. Hitting .271 in 46 games, with four homers and 23 RBIs.
Keaton Winn (Pekin/Iowa Western Community College/San Francisco Giants) — Right-handed pitcher is on the 60-day injured list for the Giants with an elbow issue. Has made 12 starts for San Francisco and is 3-8 with a 7.16 ERA.
