CEDAR RAPIDS — Here’s your eighth look of the season at what we call Iowans In The Minors. It’s a bi-weekly look at how baseball players in the major leagues and affiliated minor leagues are fairing.
That’s guys from the Gazette area and University of Iowa.
All the following statistics for players are through Friday.
One other note. None of these Iowa players signed from the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft or as a free agent have played, yet, in an official minor league team game: pitchers Brody Brecht (Rockies), Jack Young (White Sox) and Marcus Morgan (Phillies) and outfielder Sam Petersen (Nationals).
Keaton Anthony (Iowa/Philadelphia Phillies) — First baseman just keeps keeping on. Has played in 80 Class A games this season and has a .333 batting average. That includes .346 in 36 games for high-A Jersey Shore (South Atlantic League), with a home run and 27 RBIs.
Ben Beutel (Davenport Assumption/Iowa/Chicago White Sox) — The southpaw reliever is 2-1 with a 5.06 earned run average for high-Class A Winston-Salem of the South Atlantic League. More strikeouts (31) than innings pitched (26 2/3) and fewer hits (21) than innings pitched.
