Gatens is on Orlando's NBA Summer League roster

Former Iowa basketball player Matt Gatens will play for the Orlando Magic in the NBA's Orlando Pro Summer League.

The league starts next Sunday and runs through next Friday.

Gatens played for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League a year ago. He didn't get a training camp invitation, and signed with UCAM Murcia CB in Spain. There, he played in 33 games, averaging 24.7 minutes and 9.6 points on a team with balanced scoring and playing time.

Gatens averaged 15.2 points and made 41 percent of his 3-point tries for Iowa as a senior in the 2011-12 season.

One of Gatens' teammates will be Victor Oladipo of Indiana, who was the second player taken in last week's NBA draft.
