Cedar Rapids teenager Joey Gase has captured the pole for the USAR Pro Cup Series Carolina 200 at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway. Qualifying was Friday, with the 150-lap race set for Saturday.
The fastest lap for Friday's qualifying was 24.199 second with the car clocked at 148.766 miles per hour. Gase has won the pole in both USAR races he has competed in this season. He was second at an USAR event at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway in March.
Gase, 18, who became the youngest late model season points champion at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in 2009, has won both late model features on the half-mile asphalt this season.
