Joey Gase competed in last weekend's Goodyear Dealers of Iowa 200, a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West event, at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. The Cedar Rapids teenager, racing for SS Green Light Racing, finished in 23rd place in the 44-car field.
Gase, 17, of Cedar Rapids, completed 199 laps and was still running at the end. Gase had four straight top 10 finishes - two each in the Pro All-Star Series and the Sunoco National Tour - before racing in the NASCAR event.
Max Gresham edged Ty Dillon by less than .04 seconds to claim his second straight race win this summer. Gresham, a 17-year-old from Griffen, Ga., is a developmental driver for Joe Gibbs Racing. His JGR teammate, Brett Moffitt, a 17-year-old from Grimes, Iowa, earned 17th place.
The next race Gase is scheduled to participate in is the Sunoco National Tour's Michigan 200 at Springport (Mich.) Motor Speedway on June 5.
The Cedar Rapids Xavier junior became the youngest late model season points champion at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, winning the division last summer.
