Gase finishes 14th in USAR Pro Cup Series race

NEWTON - Cedar Rapids teenager Joey Gase started 14th and finished in that same spot for the USARacing Pro Cup Series Blue Ox 150 on Friday at the Iowa Speedway.
Weather causes problems with the race, delaying it for more than two hours due to rain and then ending the race after 121 laps due to fog. Clay Rogers won the race, crossing the finish line a little more than four seconds ahead of A.J. Frank.
Gase completed 49 laps before blowing an engine in Turn 4 and leaving the track. He had climbed into the top 10 early in the race, that was hampered by a handful of cautions, including four restarts before the first official lap.
Gase, 17, who became the youngest late model season points champion at Hawkeye Downs Speedway last summer, was driving the backup car for Benny Gordon Racing after the team contacted Gase Wednesday afternoon. Gordon finished ninth.
