Gase fails to qualify for NASCAR K&N event

NEWTON - Cedar Rapids teenager Joey Gase failed to qualify for the NASCAR K&N Series East/West Challenge race at Iowa Speedway on Saturday.
According to qualifying results posted at http://hometracks.nascar.com/node/6215 , the 18-year-old race car driver was one spot out of the 40-car field. Gase, teaming with Benny Gordon Racing and driving a car of Tanner Berryhill Motorsports, posted a qualifying time of 24.679 at a speed of 127.639.
Gase, who graduates from Cedar Rapids Xavier on Sunday and will continue school at Mount Mercy University, was 23rd in the same event last year at Iowa Speedway.
