Morris said on ESPN afterward the Cyclones wanted to get Iowa center Adam Woodbury in ball-screen action because he struggles moving his feet.
The Cyclones ended the game on a 9-0 run.
An in-bounds turnover led to a Matt Thomas three, then Georges Niang cut the lead to one with two free throws after a five-second violation on the Hawkeyes.
ISU locked down on defense and forced a shot clock violation with 21.5 seconds left.
Iowa chose not to call a timeout after Morris' go-ahead shot, and Jarrod Uthoff missed a three as time expired.
Morris and Georges Niang each finished with 20 points. Uthoff led all scorers with 32, 30 in the first half.

Jarrod Uthoff's first points of the second half come at a huge time for the Hawkeyes, his jumper putting Iowa back up three with 3:48 to go.
Then how about Anthony Clemmons? Hesitates, but knocks down a wide-open three to make it a six-point game.

You didn't actually think Iowa State was out of this, did you?
A steal and Monte Morris dunk allowed Iowa State cut the lead to single digits for the first time since the 12 1/2-minute mark in the first half.

Georges Niang followed with a jumper and Morris hit out of an in-bounds play to slice it to five before Jok answered for the current margin.
"I've seen this before," ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla said. "I'm never surprised in this place. And the Hawkeyes have played really well."
Jarrod Uthoff has missed all five shots he's take in the second half after scoring 30 in the first 20 minutes.

That three-minute sequence will be marked by boos from the Hilton crowd.
Peter Jok was inadvertently poked in the eye by Naz Mitrou-Long and had to leave the game after the officials stopped play.
Sounds like Hilton Coliseum may need a 5-second delay and a bleep button. Do Midwest mothers still wash mouths out with soap?December 11, 2015

The game really slowed down after the crowd got fired up when Matt Thomas hit his fifth three and Georges Niang followed to make it a 13-point game.
Adam Woodbury pump-faked twice and got a layup to put the Hawkeyes up 15.
14:39 2nd - Iowa 65, Iowa State 48
Peter Jok has taken over for Jarrod Uthoff. The Iowa guard hit four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points in the first five minutes of the second half to keep the Hawkeyes rolling.
The Cyclones have continuously lost Jok, giving him open looks from outside.

Half - Iowa 49, Iowa State 35
Jarrod Uthoff has a career high. In 20 minutes. 30 points for the Hawkeye senior on 11 of 13 shooting, including five 3-pointers.
Iowa State has tried multiple defensive looks against him, but nothing has worked.
"I haven't seen many 20-minute performances better than this," ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla said.

On the other end, Iowa State has turned it over 12 times and is shooting 43.3 percent, unable to keep up with Iowa's .613 mark.
"This is unusual to the see this veteran team this out of sorts," Fraschilla said.
Matt Thomas has really helped the Cyclones off the bench with four threes for a team-high 12 points. The Cyclones scored five points in the final minute to cut the lead to 14.

At this rate, all of these updates will be about Jarrod Uthoff.
His latest highlight, a crossover and throwdown on ISU's Abdel Nader. He missed his first shot, a three with 6:25 left, but got a runout dunk, to up his total to 24 points on 9 of 10 shooting.

"I'm not surprised, but I'm surprised he's doing it in this environment," ISU analyst Fran Fraschilla said. "Let me tell you, the mock drafts are going to be changing tonight. 6:25 1st miss."
He had 24 in the first half against Western Illinois, finishing with a career high 27.
Just before the latest TV timeout, the Cyclones went zone to try to limit Uthoff.
Meanwhile, the Cyclones have turned it over 10 times and are shooting 40.7 percent (11-27).

Jarrod. Uthoff. Now 20 points in 13 minutes as Iowa continues to bolster its lead and quite the crowd at Hilton.
The Hawkeye forward is now 7 for 7 from the floor, including three 3-pointers.
"Nobody can guard Uthoff but (ISU coach Steve Prohm) doesn't want to go zone because the Hawkeyes can shoot it, so he's got a dilemma on his hands," ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla said.
Illustrating that, guard Naz Mitrou-Long got switched onto Uthoff, and had his ankles broken for a step-back jumper.
Jameel McKay provided a Cyclones highlight with an alley-oop finish from Matt Thomas.
11:52 1st - Iowa 25, Iowa State 14
Matt Thomas gave the Cyclones a spark by coming off the bench and hitting two straight threes, including one in transition that got Hilton jumping, but Iowa has extended its lead with a 6-0 run.
Jarrod Uthoff has been an absolute monster so far. He already has 14 points on 4 of 4 shooting, including three 3-pointers, and a 3 of 4 mark from the free-throw line.
Iowa State is going to have to do a better job of finding him, because he's showing an ability to hit from anywhere on the floor.

15:23 1st - Iowa 14, Iowa State 6
ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla's advice for a road game against a top-five team in the country was, "just get to the first TV timeout not down six, or eight or 10."
It's the opposite so far.
Adam Woodbury scored Iowa's first six points, then Jarrod Uthoff added the next eight, including two threes, as part of a 14-2 Iowa run.
Iowa has turned it over three times but ISU isn't its typical sharpness in transition. The Cyclones are 3 of 9 from the field in the early going, while the Hawkeyes are 5 for 6.
