The Longwood University Lancers are the Iowa Hawkeyes' victimes, er, guests, today at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Let's greet the Lancers with some Fun Facts.
1. Longwood (2-4) lost games to Eastern Michigan and George Washington this week by a total of 56 points.
2. Lancers forward Lotanna Nwogbo has scored 98 points in six games ... and has zero assists.
3. Nwogbo had four one-handed dunks in the Lancers' 91-66 loss at George Washington.
4. Longwood has been a Division I school since 2004. It has never been to the NCAA tournament.
5. Longwood ended the last four seasons with RPIs of 321, 333, 333, and 339.
6. The Lancers' best record over the previous five seasons was 12-19.
7. Longwood's road record as a D-I program is 18-142.
8. This is Longwood's sixth-straight game away from home. It is the team's only game this season that won't be played in the Eastern time zone.
9. Longwood plays Penn State Beaver on Dec. 20.
10. Longwood was founded in 1839. Two-thirds of its students are female.
11. Longwood is located in Farmville, Va. It is in Prince Edward County, which calls itself the 'northernmost tip of Southern Virginia.” Which probably puts it in the center of the state.
12. The Battle of Sailor's Creek (also known as Sayler's Creek) was fought near Farmville on April 6, 1865. It was the last major U.S. Civil War engagement between the armies of Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee.
13. The next Farmville Town Council meeting will be held on Dec. 10. Town Council members gather for dinner in the Town Manager's Conference Room at 5:30 p.m., prior to each regularly scheduled Council meeting.
14. That Farmville has nothing to do with the game of the same name.
