What Iowa probably needs right now is to play Northwestern. Fun Fact No. 1 will explain why. So will Fun Fact Nos. 2 and 3.
1. Iowa's last two games at Northwestern were 70-50 and 76-50 victories.
2. Northwestern hasn't won in 2015.
3. The Wildcats haven't won a Big Ten home game since Jan. 21, 2014, against Purdue.
4. Iowa is 3-2 on the road in Big Ten play.
5. The Hawkeyes have out-rebounded their last three opponents by an average of 11.7 per game.
6. The last meeting between the two was Northwestern's 67-62 win at last year's Big Ten tournament. The Wildcats shot 52.3 percent from the field, Iowa 32.3 percent.
7. Northwestern has 95 more fouls than its opponents.
8. Wildcat guard Tre Demps is the son of former NBA player Dell Demps. Wildcat forward Sanjay Lumpkin is the son of former NFL defensive back Sean Lumpkin. Northwestern Coach Chris Collins is the son of former NBA player/coach Doug Collins.
9. Demps was the only Northwestern player to score a field goal in the Wildcats' 68-44 loss to Michigan State in Evanston last Tuesday.
10. Before that game that dropped Northwestern to 1-10 in the Big Ten, Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo called it 'the most deceptive 1-9 team maybe in the country.”
11. Drew Crawford, a senior on Northwestern's team last year, plays for the Erie BayHawks of the NBA D-League. He has briefly been teammates with former Hawkeye Devyn Marble, who had a pair of two-game assignments to Erie from the Orlando Magic. Crawford was in training camp with the Magic last October. He is averaging Through Thursday, he was averaging 16.6 points for Erie.
12. Of the five Division I teams in Chicagoland, Loyola (15-10) is the only one with a winning record. The others are Northwestern (10-14), DePaul (12-14), Illinois-Chicago (7-19) and Chicago State (6-20).
13. Northwestern is the only long-standing member of a power conference to have never appeared in an NCAA tournament. Barring it winning the rest of its regular-season games and then winning three or four more in the Big Ten tourney, or winning five games in five days at the Big Ten tournament next month, the NCAA drought will still be in effect.
