Indiana is known for many things. Basketball. Auto racing. ... Basketball.
But Indiana University has a football team, and it will play at Iowa Saturday. So here are the Fun Facts about that matchup.
1. Iowa's defense has allowed just three touchdowns (and eight field goals) in the 12 times its opponent has reached the red zone.
2. Indiana's Tevin Coleman has 14 straight games with a rushing touchdown, the longest such streak in the nation and a school-record. For a very good story about him, click here.
3. Iowa has the fourth-fewest penalties per game in the nation, with 3.6.
4. Indiana redshirt freshman Griffin Oakes is a walk-on who set a school-record with a 58-yard field goal two weeks ago against Maryland. It was the longest field goal in the Big Ten in five years.
5. Iowa's all-time long field goal is Tim Douglas' 58-yarder in 1998.
6. Indiana co-defensive coordinator William Inge played defensive end at Iowa from 1993-96. He had 24 quarterback sacks as a Hawkeye. He has coached for Iowa, Northern Iowa, San Diego State, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Buffalo, the Buffalo Bills, and now Indiana.
7. Iowa has trailed in every game this season.
8. Indiana has 24 players who are majoring in general studies.
9. No Indiana football coach had a winning record in Big Ten play. Alvin 'Bo” McMillin was 34-34-6 from 1934-1947. Current Hoosiers coach Kevin Wilson has a 5-20 Big Ten mark.
10. The Hoosiers' last winning record in Big Ten play was in 1993, the year Iowa quarterbacks Jake Rudock and C.J. Beathard were born.
11. Indiana's last bowl win was a 24-0 victory over Baylor in the 1991 Copper Bowl. The Copper Bowl became the Insight.com Bowl, which became the Insight Bowl, which became the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, which is now the Cactus Bowl.
12. Iowa City and Bloomington, Ind., are both a Tree City USA. It isn't really a select group.
13. The school colors of Indiana and Oklahoma are crimson and cream. If that sounds like the makings of a tasty cake ...
