Former Xavier prep back after drug suspension

Aug. 13, 2010 4:20 pm
Former Cedar Rapids Xavier outfielder Michael Harrington is back playing minor league baseball after a 50-game suspension earlier this season for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Harrington, 24, has returned to the Minnesota Twins organization but was assigned Friday to low-Class A Beloit of the Midwest League. The outfielder played 36 games for high-A Fort Myers, hitting .153.
Harrington played college baseball at the College of Charleston. He was suspended in late May for testing positive for the Andarine, which he told the Fort Myers News-Press he was taking for a sore left shoulder.
He said he did not realize the drug was on the banned list.
"I've been having shoulder pain for the past two years," Harrington told the newspaper. "I'm a 24-year-old in A-ball. I knew I needed to play."
