IOWA CITY - About 200 kids braved the rain Saturday for a chance to pick up some football wisdom from Hawkeye greats.
The third year for Kamp Kinnick, as it is called, put the kids through a series of drills, including stretching, tackling and, most importantly, catching touchdowns.
A page for the event online says it was free to attend for boys and girls ages seven to 13, but registration was limited to 260 participants.
'It's a great time. The kids are having so much fun, we're having with them out here. It was raining before, but these kids were waiting in the tunnel waiting to come out. I remember back when I was a kid, I would have loved to be out here doing this. It's just good to give back,” said former running back Mark Weisman. One of his fellow coaches agreed.
'We were really into it this year. With the rain, you kinda have to get your mind set, which is great. The kids responded,” former wide receiver Tim Dwight said.
Standout Chuck Long was also among the former players in attendance as a counselor.
The camp started a day of activities in advance of the Iowa Hawkeye football team's spring game, which concludes its spring practice sessions.
Registration for Kamp Kinnick next year opens on April 1, 2016.
