Former Hawkeye transfers to Arizona
May. 28, 2015 3:56 pm
IOWA CITY - Former Iowa fullback/linebacker John Kenny will transfer to Arizona to continue his football career, he announced on Twitter.
Kenny wrote, 'can't wait to get out to Tucson and keep chasing my dream” shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday. Arizona originally recruited Kenny (6-foot-2, 234 pounds) out of Carmel, Ind., but the sophomore decided to play at Iowa instead.
Kenny came to Iowa as a linebacker, where he spent his 2013 red-shirt season. Early last fall, Kenny shifted to fullback because of injuries to starter Adam Cox and backup Macon Plewa. Kenny started two games, caught four passes for 27 yards but did not run the ball. He also competed on special teams.
He started the spring season at fullback but moved back to linebacker halfway through drills. He failed to advance past the third team and left the squad in May.
Kenny must sit out the upcoming season but will be eligible to play for two years.
