Owen Freeman, Iowa’s leader in scoring average, reboundiing average and blocked shots in the 2024-25 season, is transferring to Creighton for his junior season.
The 6-foot-10 Freeman played in 19 games this season and averaged 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots when his season abruptly ended in late January because he had surgery on a finger. His absence in the lineup was felt by his team, which went on to finish 7-13 in the Big Ten and 17-16 overall.
Creighton was 15-5 and in second-place in the Big East this season, and 25-11 overall. The Bluejays have won 20 or more games under Greg McDermott in each of the last 10 seasons.
Freeman and former Iowa point guard Brock Harding led Moline High to the Illinois big-school state boys’ basketball championship in 2023.
Freeman was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year (media) and Co-Freshman of the Year (coaches) last year.
