To know you are the best in the nation at what you do, is something that everybody dreams about.
B.J. and Heather Fleming of Robins made that dream a reality.
The couple took the court in May, looking for their third title in the National Husband and Wife Hard Court Tennis Championships.
'It is something you dream of, we grew up competing our whole lives, and every competitor dreams of being a national champion,” said Heather, who also won with B.J. in 2009 and 2011.
The duo cruised through their first two matches with easy victories, but the third was a three-set thriller with back-and-forth twists and turns.
In the end, however, they got the golden ball - the championship award - once again.
This one was just a little bit sweeter, though.
About a year ago, Heather gave birth to twins. That took away from the normal prep time they would've liked to have for a national title run.
'It was definitely harder to prepare this time around,” she said. 'I was not able to play tennis for six weeks. It took time to get back into the groove after that.”
The couple also faced very stiff competition in their 2015 run. Eight teams in the tournament were rated 10, the highest ranking in the United States Tennis Association.
The extraordinary couple was faced with tons of adversity, but they did not let anything get to them.
'Our teamwork on and off the court is tremendous,” Heather said. 'We pick each other up on and off the court. There are not many couples out there that could handle competing together on that stage.”
Both of the Fleming's attended the University of Northern Iowa to play tennis. That is where they met and eventually got married.
'We knew as soon as we got out of college that we had to do this,” Heather said.
And look where it got them. Six years after their first run, they are three-time national champions.
