Here are the finalists for this week's KCRG-TV9 Athlete of the Week.
Leah Heim
West Delaware
Bowling
Leah won the girls' individual state 1A bowling tournament. She bowled a 636 total for three games, which was good enough for first place. She led her team to an overall second place finish. At state she averaged 212 per game, while Leah averaged 200 per game for the season. She had a high game of 255. Leah is a Top 5 bowler in the state, regardless of class. West Delaware was undefeated during the season in meets.
Jack Keleher
Mount Vernon
Basketball
Jack helped lead the Mustangs to the state tournament for the first time since 2003. Mount Vernon finished the regular season 20-4, ranked sixth, and will face No. 9 North Cedar Monday night in the first round of the state tournament. Jack scored 15 points in the Substate final against Mediapolis to get to state, in a dominating 60-37 win. He averaged 14 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals per game during the season.
Austin Meeker
Western Dubuque
Bowling
Austin led the Bobcats to a state team bowling title, making it back-to-back titles for Western Dubuque. He finished tied for third individually at the boys' 1A state bowling tournament. Austin bowled a three-game total of 672, which included a score of 288 in his second game. That was the highest game bowled at state in class 1A. Austin started out with 10 strikes in a row in the second game, and was just one missed shot away from a perfect game 300. He averaged 224 per game at state. He only averaged 182 per game during the season, then bowled 40+ pins better per game at state to help lead the Bobcats to the 1A title.
