HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa drove 91 yards in 8:38 on its first possession of the game to take a 7-0 lead.
Daniels carried four times for 28 yards on that drive and scored on a 3-yard rush.
Gophers QB Mitch Leidner tied the score on a run of his own, a 2-yard carry with 1:54 remaining in the first.
Iowa QB C.J. Beathard answered with a 1-yard bootleg TD that put the Hawkeyes in front earlier in the quarter.
Leidner's 40-yard touchdown pass to wide-open tight end Brandon Lingen with 12:24 to go tied the score at 14.
The TD was set up by Leidner's 37-yard pass to K.J. Maye inside the 5.
Marshall Koehn's 47-yard field goal with 7:24 to play in the second quarter gave the Hawkeyes the lead after Minnesota tied the game for the second time.
It was Koehn's seventh 40-plus yarder of the season.
The Hawkeyes, who accounted for 290 first-half yards, drove 97 in the final minutes of the half to go up two possessions, scoring on Daniels' two-yard run, his second of the night.
Iowa has now outscored its opponents by 60 in the final two minutes of halves.
Another Koehn field goal made it 27-14, then Minnesota produced an impressive 14-play, 75-yard drive capped by Rodrick Williams' 1-yard TD run to cut it to 27-21.
Iowa went up two possessions when Beathard scored on a QB sneak on the second play of the fourth quarter, but the Hawkeyes failed on the ensuing two-point conversion.
Beathard, who missed a play in the fourth quarter after being shaken up on a sneak, was 18 of 26 for 213 yards, plus ran for 50 yards and two scores.
Minnesota got tricky when running back Shannon Brooks tossed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Drew Wolitarsky to pull the Gophers within five with just over five minutes to play.
Daniels then sealed the deal with a 51-yard TD with just over two minutes to go.
Minnesota responded with a quick scoring drive, capped by Brooks' 3-yard run, but could not recover an onside kick, and Iowa kneeled out the clock.
PLAY YOU HAVE TO SEE
#NewKirk struck again in the fourth quarter. Beathard handed off to Smith, who ran right and delivered a 21-yard pass to fellow receiver Matt VandeBerg.

"I don't know if it's the No. 16 or what, but he looks like (Joe) Montana. He just has that feel ... He is a difference-maker. He's getting healthy and is in control. Fun to watch." -- BTN analyst Matt Millen on C.J. Beathard.
