PARKERSBURG (AP) - ESPN is planning to honor the family of slain Aplington-Parkersburg football coach Ed Thomas.
Thomas' family will be given the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs, an award show held by the network in Los Angeles on July 14.
The award is presented yearly to individuals whose contributions transcend sports. Past winners of the honor include Muhammad Ali and Nelson Mandela.
Former player Mark D. Becker was sentenced to life in prison for killing Thomas last June.
