Efron and Quaid shoot movie scenes at Iowa Speedway

Jul. 16, 2011 4:24 pm
NEWTON - Actors Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid were at Iowa Speedway taping scenes from an untitled movie Saturday.
The movie, directed by Ramin Bahrani, features Efton as a rural Iowa teenager aspiring to become a professional racecar driver, whose father is played by Quaid. Producers shot Efron, famous for his role in the Disney teenage hit "High School Musical" and Quaid in various scenes and, according to Iowa Speedway news release, use stock car racing footage during the ARCA Series Prairie Meadows 200.
"There are a lot of race tracks in America and we are very excited that Mr. Bahrani chose Iowa Speedway as the set for his movie,” Iowa Speedway President Jerry Jauron said in a news release before Saturday.
The taping produced a little bit of controversy when media attempted to photograph the stars. At least two photographers returned to the media center, claiming they had been restricted from shooting photos. One was threatened with arrest, while another was told by an non-Iowa Speedway employee his credentials would be revoked. Iowa Speedway officials made an attempt to rectify the situation once it was brought to their attention.
