"I think we're finally getting back to Solon football," Coach Kevin Miller said. "It starts with getting back to our core values, which are character, being sound fundamentally and practicing, then going out Friday nights and playing with a purpose and with passion. We did a great job of getting pressure and keeping contain on a very versatile quarterback tonight."
Despite penalties and a botched snap negating a touchdown on the opening drive that eventually led to 41-yard field goal from Josh Proehl, Solon was able to regroup, taking advantage of turnover on downs and an interception in the first quarter.
The next series, Hanus found Colton Dall on a 5 yard hot route, and Dalton did the rest of the work, scampering into the end zone for a 23 yard TD. Two minutes and 19 seconds later, Dall found the ball, this time on the defensive side of the ball, intercepting a Villhauer pass and taking it 71 yards to paydirt to make it 17-0 in the first quarter. "It's kind of amazing to be sitting on the sidelines last year, watching the upperclassmen do their thing," said Dall. "Now it's just great to get a chance to make plays out there on both sides of the ball and get a chance to shine."
The second quarter was much of the same Solon dominance, with the pass rush from Solon giving no time for the pass happy Clipper offense to find a rhythm in their offense. Solon made it 24-0 nothing with 7:39 left in the 2nd, as Hanus found Austin Dall for a 30 yard TD pass. 4 minutes later, Hanus got in on the action taking a 17 yard keeper in for a TD to make it 31-0 at the half.
Solon's only slip up came when they allowed the Clippers a safety midway through the 3rd quarter, but they were unable to capitalize on it.
The Spartans' Cody Fritz tacked on a 17 yard TD run as time ran out in the 3rd quarter, thus invoking the mercy rule for a running clock in the 4th quarter.
Nash Stopko led the charge for the Clippers, rushing for 83 yards on 14 carries including a late touchdown. The loss takes the Clippers to 0-4 on the season.
