SPRINGVILLE - With dominant all-around play, Don Bosco (2-0) proved last night it will be a force to be reckoned with in eight-man football this season.
Led by senior quarterback Mason Svoboda, the Dons defeated Springville, 72-14, at Allison Field last evening.
'We play as a team and we spread the ball around when we need to,” Svoboda said. 'Our offensive line is a whole new unit this year, but they're doing a great job creating holes.”
Svoboda completed 4 of 5 passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. He was even more effective on the ground, rushing for 190 yards and three TDs on 20 carries. Most of Svodoba's production came in the first half.
'Mason prepared himself well in the off-season, knowing that he was going to have to carry a lot of the weight this season,” Coach Colby Yoder said. 'We've centered a lot of our offense around Mason this year, and we also have a lot of other great attributes on this team.”
Springville started strong when senior running back Tyler McDowell ran for 51 yards on the third play of the game. Senior Trevor Hulett then punched it in from a yard out to give Springville (1-1) a 7-0 lead.
From there, it was all Don Bosco.
Svodoba answered Springville's early score with a 38-yard TD run on the Dons' first possession. He then capped off a 28-yard drive with a 4-yard TD run to put Don Bosco up 14-7.
Junior Damien Sawvel then got in on the scoring action with an 11-yard TD reception. The Dons scored two more rushing touchdowns as T.J. Even and Sawvel each scampered in from 5 yards out.
