As with other outdoor sporting events like Kernels baseball and auto racing at Hawkeye Downs, local and regional riders wanting to race at Cedar Rapids BMX have had to deal with what has been a soggy spring and early summer. Numerous races have been cancelled or postponed, including the annual Race For Life which has bee rescheduled as part of a double-header on Sunday, June 26.
The forecast for the coming week, however, does hold some promise with warmer, track-drying temperatures and less rain forecasted.
Upcoming events at the track, located at 1600 Cedar Bend Lane SW, near the off-leash dog park, include an open house on July 8 beginning at 6:30. All participants will have the opportunity to spend time on the track and participate in a mock race. All riders and family members in attendance will receive a hot dog and bag of chips and the cost is $5 for each rider. Please be sure to bring your helmet and any bike type is welcome at the open house. Details on racing, practices and other activities can be found on Facebook at CR BMX.
