Editor's note: Dale Bieber and David Sojka of the Bicyclists of Iowa City have agreed to send us daily reports from the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, which will make a stop in Cedar Rapids. The ride started Sunday. Here is their report from Day 2:
Here is David's report:
6:44 a.m.: 62 miles today. I left camp early at 5:45 but I was not the only one. Today's heat forecast has more bikers leaving early. Beautiful sunrise.
4:15 p.m.: Some bicycle mechanical difficulties slowed my day. With the added distance to our camp site I had 67 miles today. It did warm up quickly. Another rider registered 113 on his bike thermometer. Tomorrows ride will be close to 80 miles.
6:29 p.m.: Upon arrival in Lake View my riding group headed straight for the lake and jumped in. Tomorrow begins three straight days of 80 miles or more.
Jerry Ask of Cedar Rapids sent this photo from the RAGBRAI road, noting 'in Sac City 50 miles down 12 to go ... getting hot but just had nice 20 mile stretch with tailwind.'
Gazette community sports editor J.R. Ogden snapped this photo on his bike ride to work Monday. A frog by the Sac & Fox Trail in Cedar Rapids is ready for RAGBRAI to come to Cedar Rapids. (J.R. Ogden/The Gazette)
