No. 8 Solon hosts No. 13 Marion in a Class 3A Regional Semifinal. The teams played in the opening round of the Wamac Conference tournament a couple weeks ago with Solon winning 25-20, 25-17.The winner will play the winner of top-ranked and nationally rated Mount Vernon and Clear Creek Amana.(Just refresh for the periodical updates)Solon playing at a fast pace. Marion can't seem to keep up or get anything established. Solon up, 10-3, in first game. Solon takes 11-3 lead and Marion Coach Roxanne Paulsen calls for a timeout. Solon Coach Kurt Trout told his team to keep the momentum going and they do with two straight points for 13-3 lead.Marion has seemed to regroup, scoring five straight points and pulling within 16-10. Jessica Jakoubek has provided a spark. the senior scored three consecutive points.Solon wins opening game, 25-18. Marion played match better following Paulsen's timeout but was too far back.Solon has an illegal sub, which is delaying things. We're 1-1 in second. Think they have things straightened out.Marion a lot more in sync than the start. Indians tied it 6-6 in second on Morgan Kolarik's spike at the net.Solon goes on 5-point run behind three straight aces from Kelsey Hinrichs. Solon up 11-6 and Marion calls a timeout.Solon has taken control of Game 2. They lead 23-16. Solon wins 25-18 again.So far, Solon has an answer for everything and Marion has seemed to be battling errors.Third game sees Marion take a lead, 2-0. Solon takes lead and goes on 6-pt run to go up 9-5.Game 3 stands, 17-12, Solon. Kelsey cave with three kills for Solon's last three points.Marion storms back to tie it 18-18 on Taylor Derby's ace. The Indians have won six of last seven points, forcing Solon to call a timeout.Solon gives up lead on the first point after timeout, but then comes back with four straight points to take 22-19 lead. Marion timeout.Solon with commanding, 24-20, lead has led to the teams battling in extra scoring. Teams deadlocked at 26.Marion falls back, 27-26 when a placement hit falls out of bounds, but scores three final points to win the third game, 29-27. Jessie Kramer and hannah Miller combine for a block that put Marion up 28-27 and then had a block to keep a point alive before they won 29-27.Game 4 starting shortly.Solon up, 8-4, in the fourth game.Teams going back and forth. We're tied 18-18 after some sloppy play, which included three straight service errors and serving errors in four of five points).Solon wins 25-22 and wins 3-1.
