ELDRIDGE – He was busy celebrating his Cedar Rapids Kennedy football team's 13-7 upset of North Scott, but Cougars defensive back-linebacker-receiver Christian French divulged Monday night he is very close to making a college decision. And it's down to three schools: Oregon, Iowa and Notre Dame.“Maybe later in the week,” he said. ”I'm not sure.“I have it narrowed down to about three schools in my mind. But I think in the next couple of days, I'll have that decision made.”French said Oregon is recruiting him as a tight end, Iowa as a wide receiver and Notre Dame as a linebacker. He said he doesn't really care what position he plays in college, as long as it's the best for his future.“They all have something to offer,” he said. “Oregon is far away from home, but they want me to play the tight end position. They're doing real well out there, and they're going to have a lot of spots open for that position (next year), so I'd have a chance at making a big impact – maybe. (With) Iowa, it's receiver, and Coach (Erik) Campbell is one of the best receiver coaches there is. So there's another aspect. And Notre Dame, it's outside linebacker. That's totally different. So it's three different looks.”French is a relative neophyte when it comes to football, in only his fourth year playing. He doesn't necessarily stand out on the field during games, but his 6-foot-6 frame and sprinter's speed has made him a major recruit – in the top 100 nationally according to Rivals.com.“I'm just going to the best place I can fit in,” the affable and well-spoken French said.
