Defending state champion Clear Creek Amana is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in the preseason state softball rankings by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.Complete rankings

The Girls Union also has turned volleyball, basketball and golf into five-class sports.Solon, which placed eighth at state last year, opens at No. 1 in Class 3A. The Spartans were 34-10 in 2011. Mid-Prairie, the third-place team in 2A last year, is No. 2 in 3A.Des Moines East is No. 1 in Class 5A while NSK-AR and Akron-Westfield earned the top nod in 2A and 1A, respectively.
