CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids Washington, Waterloo West and Cedar Falls were the dominant squads this season in Class 4A, District 5, and the postseason all-district teams resemble that dominance.
The schools had seven players apiece named to the All-District 5 first team.
Washington's O'Rien Vance was named the district's Defensive Player of the Year, West's Devon Moore its Offensive Player of the Year. They both have committed to play college football at Iowa State.
Quarterback Moore's father, Lonnie, was named Coach of the Year. District coaches selected the all-district teams.
Other first-teamers from Washington, which plays Iowa City West in a 4A playoff semifinal Friday night, with Vance are fellow defensive lineman Rane Weiland, linebacker Ben Nassif and defensive back Connor Malcolm. Offensively, linemen Andrew Todd and Gerry Alt, and wide receiver Drew Dostal were named to the first team.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson had three first-team players in offensive linemen Blake Owens and Dylan Voves, running back Tavian Rashed and linebacker Kennen Stewart. Rashed finished a fine career as his school's all-time career rushing leader and tackles leader.
