C.R. 8U REDS WIN WORLD SERIES TITLE
DES MOINES - The Cedar Rapids 8U Reds baseball team accomplished its final goal of the 2015 season last weekend, capturing the USSSA World Series with an 8-0 record.
The Reds finished the year 54-3-1, winning six tournament titles and finishing second at the USSSA state.
The pitching staff and defense combined for 12 no-hitters during the season, including a perfect game. The offense scored a total of 548 runs (9.44 per game) while defense allowed only 128 (2.2 per game).
The Reds battled back from early deficits in both the World Series semifinal and championship games.
MOSER GYMNASTICS FIFTH IN NATIONALS
RAPIDS CITY, S.D. - The Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics team was awarded and ranked fifth overall at the 2015 USTA Power Tumbling National Championships.
The team won six division team awards and placed first in sub-beginners boys, beginners girls and advance beginners boys, second in sub-beginners girls and advanced beginner girls and third in sub-advanced girls.
Moser's winners were Emmy Raye Troester, Alivia Sweeney, Lilee Boriskey, Keely Recker, Claire Jaeger Hannabelle Erickson.
Second-place finishers were Melanie Lutgen, Paige Kremer, Summer Anderson, Grace Funke, Alexa Ries, Claire Cahalan, Natalie Ries, Caleb Weber, Cooper Ingles, Logan Bevans and Tucker Erickson. Addison Reetz placed third, along with Megan Pierschbacher, Josephine Briggs, Avery Sweeney, Katelin Ante, Brooklin Ante, Kennedi Bevans, Zoe Bailey, Maya Burkhart and Jason Recker.
Jana Hunt, Savannah Freese, Taylor Guthrie, Alaina Mead, Ava Nolan and Taylor Kitner placed fourth; Alexandra Esmann, Myra Clasen, Madison Habel, Zoe Walz, Leah Ries, Sophia Geistkemper, Emma Fisher and Brody Bevans were fifth; Kennedy Collins, Noa Marting, Karsyn Nichol, Abby Cook and Ingrid Vaughn placed sixth; Jessie Glanz, Chloe Bennett, Becca Farmer, Emma Marting, Madelyn Schmitz and Kylie Belinsky were seventh; Reagan Brown, Cierra Weipert, Shania Rasmussen, Blayke Hoover and Kaia Engelhardt finished eighth; Katie Boeding, Ellie Bockenstedt, Ella Marting, Jersey Even, Davien Schweitzer and Kaya Knipper were ninth; and Ella Schindler, Breanna Vaske, Miley Walz and Hanna Marting finished 10th.
Those who did well and received flight medals are: Kayli Tegeler, Addi Baiely, Abigayle Johnson, Makayla Gasper, Emma Bockenstedt, Journey Even, Taeryn Chrystal, Nicole Pettinger, Cheyenne Varner, Maddesyn Demmer, Alexa Riniker, Annie Gulick, Ella Vaughn, Mikya Britton, Lainey Knipper, Isabel Lutgen, Ireland Truex, Mckenna Wilgenbusch, Kloee Chrystal, Avery Youngblut, Meliah Eiben, Lily Schmitz, Isabella Johnson, Kayla Felton, Gabbi Funke and Elizabeth Recker.
IOWA GYM-NEST SEND 2 TO NATIONALS
IOWA CITY - Adeline Kenlin and Jaly Jones of the Iowa Gym-Nest (Coralville and Iowa City) will competing in national tournaments later this month.
Kenlin will compete on July 25 at the 2015 Secret U.S. Classic in Chicago. Jones will be at the day before in the Hopes Championships.
METRO MAJORS SECOND IN STATE
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Metro Majors finished second in the USSSA 14U Open state baseball tournament recently at Prairie High School.
The Metro Majors lost an extra-inning game to the West Des Moines Lynx in the championship.
