Brent Metcalf wins Pan American gold

TORONTO – Former Iowa wrestler Brent Metcalf beat Franklin Maren of Cuba, 8-2, in the finals at 65 kilograms Friday night at the Pan American Games in Toronto.
Metcalf had a busy day, first beating Marbin Miranda of Guam, 10-0, in the quarterfinal round, then taking out Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico, 10-8, in the semifinal round.
Metcalf was a two-time NCAA and Big Ten champion and three-time All-American at Iowa from 2007-10.
