Brady makes Trump’s claim about Iowa QB ... less likely?

While President Donald Trump surely liked seeing his friend Tom Brady win another Super Bowl as the New England Patriots' quarterback, it made his prediction about Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard even harder to come to fruition.

In January 2016, Trump told a crowd at the Iowa Field House this before members of the University of Iowa's football and wrestling teams joined him on stage:

'We've got the next Tom Brady right over here, the quarterback, he's going to be the next Tom Brady,' Trump said, referring to then-senior-to-be Beathard.

'The next Tom Brady, come on. And I know Tom, and he's a great guy, I want to tell you.'

It wasn't clear if Trump had ever seen Beathard take a snap.

Brady has been on five Super Bowl champions with the Patriots. On Sunday, he became a four-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. That's going to be a bit tough for Beathard or any present or future quarterback to equal.

First, Beathard must earn a spot on an NFL roster. He isn't widely viewed as someone who will be taken in the early rounds of the league's 2017 draft.

But Brady wasn't drafted until the sixth round in 2000. So maybe Beathard will follow Brady's career path. Or, maybe Trump was exaggerating.

I wonder if anyone on any political side can look at this with amusement instead of anger about one thing or another. We'll know soon enough.
