CLINTON — Brady Anderson threw six shutout innings to help the Cedar Rapids Kernels past Clinton, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field. It's the seventh win in a row for Cedar Rapids, which could clinch a Midwest League playoff berth when the teams complete their four-game series Monday night.
Anderson (3-0) allowed four hits and did not walk anyone, lowering his earned run average to 1.24. He struck out four.
The Kernels (75-57, 39-24 second half) scored in the second inning on a Christian Cavaness fielder's choice grounder. Jaylin Davis homered in the fifth inning (his seventh of the season) to give Cedar Rapids a 2-0 lead.
Nelson Molina added a solo homer in the seventh. Zander Wiel had an RBI double in the seventh.
Second baseman Luis Arraez went 0-for-4 to see his 16-game hitting streak end. He still leads the Midwest League with a .348 batting average.
The Kernels' magic number for clinching a second-half playoff berth in the Western Division is two. Their magic number for clinching home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs is three.
