PLAYERS
l Maurice Arrington
(Cedar Rapids Washington, senior): The 6-foot-6 senior averaged 10.6 points and 6.6 rebounds last season. Getting late start because of long football season.
l Jordan Bohannon
(Linn-Mar, junior): Last of the four Bohannon brothers averaged 17.6 points last season. Developing a more all-around offensive game to complement distance shooting.
l Drew Cook
(Iowa City Regina, senior): The 6-foot-6 Iowa football recruit did everything on the court last season, averaging 25.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Second-team all-stater in Class 2A.
l David DiLeo
(Iowa City West, senior): The 6-foot-7 wing player averaged 12.5 points to help West win its record third-consecutive 4A title, shooting 54 percent from the field. Third-team all-stater.
l Spencer Haldeman
(Western Dubuque, senior): The 6-1 guard ended last season with a one-for-the-ages 44-point outing against eventual Dubuque Wahlert in a district final. Averaged 24 points. Signed with Northern Iowa.
l Jayden Johnson
(North Cedar, senior): Led Huskies to state tournament last season, averaging 16.9 and a team-high 5.8 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 forward was second team all-state.
l Paul Kaufmann
(North Tama, senior): A third-team all-stater in Class 1A. The 6-foot-4 wing averaged 20 points.
l Connor McCaffery
(Iowa City West, sophomore): Ran the point last season, averaging 6.1 points and had team-high 128 assists. Committed to play for his dad, Fran, at Iowa.
l Adam McDermott
(Cedar Rapids Xavier, senior): The 6-4 wing signed with North Dakota. Averaged 16.5 points, shooting 87 percent from the line.
l Cordell Pemsl
(Dubuque Wahlert, junior): The 6-foot-7 forward has committed to Iowa. Averaged 15.5 points and 9.1 rebounds for the Class 3A state champion Golden Eagles last season.
l Jared Printy
(Cedar Rapids Washington, junior): The 6-foot-3 shooter averaged 10.6 points last season.
l Ethan Steinbronn
(West Central, senior): Averaged 23.7 points and 12.5 rebounds last season. The 6-foot-10 center has signed with Upper Iowa.
TEAMS
l Cedar Rapids Xavier
: Saints lost in a Class 3A substate final last season to eventual state champion Dubuque Wahlert. Led by one-two senior punch of Adam McDermott and Calvin Winker. McDermott, 6-foot-3, has signed with North Dakota, Winker (6-4) with Division II Missouri Western. Michael Mims has transferred in from Cedar Rapids Prairie.
l Iowa City Regina
: All five starters return for the Regals, who were 21-4 last season. First-year Coach Stu Ordman has a pedigree of success.
l Iowa City West
: There is no shortage of talent for Coach Steve Bergman. Wing player David DiLeo was third team all-state last season and sophomore guard Connor McCaffery has committed to play at Iowa. You'll hear names like Tanner Lohaus, Wali Parks and Devontae Lane a lot more this season.
l Meskwaki Settlement School:
The top seven scorers from an 18-5 team are back. Guard Allis Tahahwa led the way as a sophomore, averaging 13.9 points.
l Mount Vernon
: Joins Wamac Conference mate Western Dubuque as a school that jumps a class. Mustangs were 18-6 last season and have four starters returning, including leading scorers Connor Hermann (15.1 points), Tommy Hook (14.0) and Andy Decamp (11.1).
l Western Dubuque
: Perennially on the 3A-4A bubble, the Bobcats are 4A this season. The Bobcats have all five starters back from a 17-6 team.
