Cedar Rapids Kennedy forward Erik Boyer has been named the 2009-10 Gatorade Iowa Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
Boyer, a senior, has scored nine goals and made eight assists to help the Cougars to a 12-2 record and a No. 3 ranking in the latest Class 3A poll. He was a member of the 1992 U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Olympic Development Program team, a 2009 Second-Team All-State selection and is a two-time First-Team All-Mississippi Valley Conference honoree.
Boyer, who has signed to play soccer at Drake, also has a B-plus average in the classroom and is a volunteer youth soccer coach.
"Erik Boyer has worked extremely hard," said Shaun Howe, Boyer's club coach with Eastern Iowa United. "He's a big, strong kid (6-2, 180) and technically good for a big kid. He's the full package."
