Jun. 20, 2016 2:07 pm
IOWA CITY — The Big Ten women's basketball season will be cut back to 16 games next season, meaning the Iowa Hawkeyes will face only three league teams twice.
The Hawkeyes (19-14 overall, 8-10 Big Ten in 2015-16) will face Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers both home and away next season. Maryland is the defending champion and coached by Cedar Rapids native Brenda Frese; Rutgers is coached by former Iowa coach C. Vivian Stringer.
Iowa also will host Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes' road-only opponents are Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue.
Dates and times are yet to be determined.
